On March 30th, Catarina Granado, a Junior at Legacy competed in a local Art Battle, an event where the best artists in Wichita Falls attend to show off their creativity. The event was sponsored by The Lab who advertised through the news and Facebook. Granado found out about it from one of her friends from her congregation.
“Her husband is the kind of organizer for all of it and she basically just told me that it’s people who got to paint on the stage and audience basically voted,” Granado said.
Granado said she “later found out that that’s only a contest that a lot of the best artists in Wichita Falls kind of attend.”
The artists volunteered to paint on the stage and advanced through rounds of 20 minutes to get as far as they could. Spectators would stand around and watch, talk, and cast their votes.
“They got to basically vote who would go to the next round and who wouldn’t,” Granado said.
Through her paintings and use of color, she painted portraits based upon herself and advanced to the final round. At this point she doesn’t have any plans or goals for the competition next year.
“I just did it for fun,” Granado said. “I went in not expecting much.”
