Legacy’s senior IB students held an art exhibition in the theatre black box, displaying their art they created over the past year. Every student had their own theme and was able to decorate their corner or wall with anything that fit the theme. Mrs. Meyers, a first-year IB art teacher, said this was her favorite part of the job so far.
“It’s a culmination of all their hard work from the year,” said Mrs. Meyers. “I helped guide them but they mainly came up with their ideas all on their own.”
Even though students knew this was a big part of their IB art course, most weren’t sure what their central idea was until recently. For example, senior Chisom Igbokwe created his first piece as a joke, and found he really enjoyed it.
“I was on facetime with my friend and took a picture of this face he was making,” said Igbokwe.
Needing a project to work on in art, Igbokwe recreated the picture with pencils and being pleasantly surprised, repeated the process with other photos of other friends.

“It’s about capturing this moment and being able to look back on it,” said Igbokwe. “Every time I look at this photo I remember making fun of him and the face he was making in the call.”
Other students had a clearer understanding of the kind of art they wanted to create. Senior Evelyn Acevedo was drawn to creating pieces that reflected her childhood.
“I wanted to focus on childhood because I’m a senior and it feels so long ago,” said Acevedo, “Like this piece here is a self-portrait but me as a bunny to represent innocence. Then scraps of art I made when I was a kid are surrounding it.”
Overall, Meyers had stated how satisfied she is with this year’s collection of students and art.
“This is a part of the curriculum, kind of like their final,” said Meyers. “So they have to do it but I really enjoy it and seeing everything they’ve spent so much time on throughout the year.”
