At Universal Cheerleaders Association tryouts, Daniel Davis made history as the first student from Legacy to become a UCA staff member. His journey is especially meaningful, as he was also the first boy to ever be part of Legacy cheer.
When asked about UCA, Davis explained, “UCA, or Universal Cheerleaders Association, is basically an organization that helps cheerleaders improve their skills and become leaders. They host camps, competitions, and give people the chance to become staff members who teach and inspire others.”
The tryout experience pushed him in new ways. “Going to tryouts was honestly a mix of exciting and stressful.” Davis said, “Being in a new place with so many talented people pushed me out of my comfort zone, but it also made me want to work even harder. It was cool meeting new people and seeing what the next level really looks like.”
Davis described the process as intense but rewarding. “The tryout process was definitely challenging but worth it. We had to learn material really fast, perform in front of judges, and show not just skills but also confidence and personality. It wasn’t just about how well you could cheer, but also how you carried yourself.”
Throughout the experience, he faced a range of emotions. At first I was really nervous because I wanted to do well, but as time went on, I started feeling more confident.” Davis said, “There were moments where I doubted myself, but I just reminded myself of all the work I put in to get there.”
When the results were announced, the moment felt surreal to him. “When I found out I made staff, I was honestly so happy and kind of shocked.” Davis said, “It’s definitely a moment I’ll never forget.”
Looking back on his journey, Davis recognizes how far he has come. “Going from being the first boy in Legacy cheer to now being the first staffer from Legacy is crazy to think about.” Davis said, “It means a lot to me, and I hope it shows other people that you can do more than what’s expected. I just want to represent Legacy well and hopefully inspire others to go after the same kind of opportunities.”
