On March 29, Academic UIL teams traveled to Abilene Wylie for a district meet. They brought home twenty medals, with five students advancing to Regional UIL.
Mrs. Schlonda Phillips was the Literary Criticism coach. It was her first time coaching, but she felt her team did well despite all of the challenges.
“I was exceptionally proud of my students. I wish we could have started a little bit earlier, with all of the new we had joining the new school it took us a while to get our team together and to get our materials ordered so we started later than the other school,” Phillips said.
Elizabeth Teruel-Figueroa placed in two different categories and competed in one other, “Next year I would like to participate in Headline Writing, maybe Poetry, Persuasive Speaking, I’m pondering the idea of Ready Writing, and Editorial. I will be using my summer to practice, I want to try to get practice time earlier, because of the new schools starting everything kinda got mixed up and usually I would start in the first semester, but I started in the second semester, that was the problem,” Teruel-Figueroa said..
